Uh-oh Amma, hot ice cream

When I got home from work on Friday Leigha informed me that our heroine had expressed three new words in one day. The words were “uh oh”, “Anna” (sometimes “Amma”), and ice cream (I actually haven’t heard this clearly yet). Also, she has picked up the “sign” for “hot” from one of her sign language books. I say “sign” because there is no hand gesture, instead you blow short bursts of air as if to extinguish a birthday candle. I have seen this and it is cute.

Also, we are very encouraged that she is really starting to understand the things we say. She’ll follow simple commands like “Go get your binky” or “pick up these blocks”. I’ve also tried “made daddy pancakes” with less than perfect results.

Today we went to the playground and met a little boy from Nepal named Nishu and his mother. He’s a month older than Anna but his mother says he’s been walking since he was 10 months old which seems incredible since our tike just recently started but there was no doubt he was a champ on his feet. While at the playground Anna enjoyed going down a fairly big slide (for her anyway), and swinging in the baby swings.

On Monday we fly to Florida so we’ll see how well she behaves on the plane this time. When we return we’re sure to have lots of pictures (and videos) of Anna with the relatives.

My new ride

A couple of weeks ago Leigha had to leave the Honda at the dealership for maintenance overnight and for the first time since Anna was born we were a little confused about how to manage the transportation (because my car doesn’t have a carseat) and the only logical choice was for me to follow Leigha in my car to the dealership and then the three of us ride home in my car. We installed the carseat in the back and we decided to leave the top down and off we went.

Anna wasn’t so sure about the car at first; she was a little skittish about getting into the carseat, but once we started moving she eased up. Leigha sat in the back with her since Anna was hesitant, but it didn’t take long for her to get used to it and by all accounts enjoy it. She got to ride again the following morning when I drove the three of them to the dealership to pick up the Honda.

In other news, she has a couple of new words now: ‘ah da’ (all done), apple, and bubble.

She’s still fighting whatever virus she has. Leigha took her to the doctor yesterday who renewed her prescription for amoxycillin.

In another bit of bad news, she’s not nearly as gung-ho about the pool as she was initially. She’s a little lukewarm on it now. I’m not sure why she’s suddenly not as happy to be in the water.

Today we’re going to the Reston Zoo, which has a lot of animal interaction out of which we think she’ll get a big kick. I plan on taking some pictures so hopefully you’ll see those soon.
